Who's Your Favorite?

I've been wandering lately who are the most popular politicians and why they are the most popular. For instance do Republicans favor the moderate voices from their party or do they lean more towards the ideologues? Or, do democrats lean towards who ever hates Bush the most, or who most embodies all of their beliefs?
So, if anyone could post a few politicians they admire and why, and their political affiliation I will try to write an article as to what republicans and democrats and people in general are looking for in their leaders. Thanks!

George W Bush, not because he is President, but because he is a man of his word, loyal to his friends and those that serve him.

John McCain, a quiet hero, moderate in views more in line politically to me than Goerge.

Just for the record, it would be nice if those who post comments would try not to answer for the other party in the way they see most fit, especially if it involves a "generalization".

I like those in the Republican party who stand for those who sent them there. I am firmly opposed to people like McCain who spend their time bargaining away the interests of their constituants.

For that reason, I tend to be more supportive of what the author calls "ideologues." They are more interested in persuing the agenda I SENT THEM THERE to pursue, than the "I'll scratch your back" status quo. I understand that even our most individual of politicians are still politicians, but I would rather not choose the lesser of weasels.

What's the point in representive government if it only represents itself? I'll take someone who favors an "unpopular" stance instead of sublimating his or her ideals for the sake of political expediency.

I agree with BakerStreet some what... in that if you are elected, represent those who elected you... though in some cases doing so could mean sacrificing personal dogma.....which would you do?

As for a polotician......Franklin D. Roosevelt, He was (IMO) a strong leader, despite his physical disability, he was a role model for many, he helped america rise from the ashes of the great depression....he's my role model....

As for affiliation, I am (IMO, not sure how others view me) an Independet/Moderate....i lean slightly to the left on about 55% of issues, and 40% to the right, the other 5% i am undecided....but that doesn't mean i i will always back one or the other side...depends on the topic,etc...

I admire the politician that is not a republican nor a democrat but, is the politician who is a human being. A real person with real views and who is out for the best interest of the american people. Like George Washington, John F. Kennedy,FDR and even the politician who has yet to be a president, or never was, Like Martin Luther King Jr.
Someone with substance who speeks what they believe and is true to their word.
