How did Democrats go so wrong in the past elections. Of course tails are flying from either side of the political aisle but what really went wrong? Were we out of touch like republicans say? Did we neglect our base as the news organizations say? In my opinion we had all the wrong people running. Look at John Kerry, the polls are in his favor he sits back, the polls aren't in his favor we see more of Edwards.

Of course not every office had the wrong candidate. Look at Colorado, Reblican governor, red state, but it elected a democratic senater. Then again look in the south. Our party lacked motivation even though it had plenty to be motivated about. Our country is divided and one party can't even offer enough strong leaders to help unite it. Is this true? What do you think?

IMO

1. I agree with you on the Kerry pick, but for different reasons. His military records and protest against the military for political gain, lost him the military personnel vote. Vets and military personnel make up nearly 8% of the population. Was it worth the Anit-Military crowds vote? I personally think he was going to get that anyway.

2. The biggest and strongest DNC supporter are the African-American voters. The DNC totally ignored them until the media and conservative talk shows guest/host pointed this out. By then it looked like an insult for them to try and talk up the African American issues (what little of them there was this year). I know that the Republicans only got about 18% of the Black vote, but the Black community consist of 12.3% of the US population. With Democrats being about 36% of the population, that's a large chuck of their base being ignored.

Were we out of touch like republicans say?

3. Yes. IMO the party has been high jacked by the old anti war in your face activist. The same methods of tossing medals out of disrespect, screaming at those who disagree, and warped early 70s take over the campus re-activist tactics are not the way a political party should be run (though they are toned down, but the same people). The party has changed for the worse, from a respectable party, to where calling yourself a Democrat gets you labeled as a fowl mouthed bomb thrower (even if your not one). Not all that labeling is Republican propaganda either, there is a strong base for that opinion of thought coming from the DNC.

Those are my points. How to fix that? Get young blood in (and I‘m not talking Dean). There are a few good young Senators and Reps. (who have been shouted down by the old activist as of late) that could lead the party back into the light or at least into my vote again.

Ya, but Coors was an idiot of a politician. I heard him debate on Tim Russert's talk program on the weekend two weeks before the election. I myself would have crossed him off my voting list if he was in my state. I'm think even some of the hard core Republicans on this site would have not voted for him after that debate.

Amen! But in my personal opinion I think many many more politicians can be labeleled as idiots!

What bothers me though is that the race was so close! Sincerely,
